How to Take Part in a Global Volunteer Phenomenon

April showers bring… a time to do good in the world! April is celebrated as Global Volunteer Month. That means people from around the world are using this month as a reminder to begin volunteering or to take their volunteer efforts to the next level. Whether you’re just getting started or a seasoned volunteer advocate, read on for ways that you can celebrate Global Volunteer Month and inspire others to join in to make our world a better place.

Find Your Passions

Volunteering can always be rewarding, but you’ll find it even more fulfilling if you commit your time to something you’re truly passionate about. Take the time to research organizations that are helping make a difference for causes near to your heart.

If you don’t have an organization you feel passionate about, have no fear! Try out a few different organizations by dipping your toe into volunteering. Just because you volunteer once doesn’t mean you’re locked in for life. Volunteering for various organizations and causes will help you truly find your passion.

Take it to the Next Level

If you’ve been regularly volunteering but have yet to lead an effort, consider Global Volunteer Month as your sign to kick it up a notch. Sign up to lead an effort at your favorite organization, from volunteering to fundraisers. This could include managing a crew of your own, or simply heading a new project for the organization that needs an experienced volunteer.

Kickstart Your Volunteer Efforts with These Ideas

Not sure how you want to participate in Global Volunteer Month? Use these ideas to get started:

  • Volunteer at a Soup Kitchen
  • Clean Up Litter in the Community
  • Donate Blood to the Community Blood Bank
  • Volunteer at an Animal Shelter
  • Collect Non-Perishable Food Items for a Local Food Bank
  • Mow Someone Else’s Lawn (With Their Permission, Of Course!)
  • Host a Fundraiser for Your Favorite Cause
  • Craft for Good—Make Something You Can Donate
  • Fill Backpacks or Provide Supplies for Youth
  • Become a Mentor

Remember, these are simply ideas to get you started! Organizations in your area will be able to provide suggestions when you contact them to offer your assistance. Use this month as an opportunity to find your passion and get out there to spread kindness and love in the world.
